Where would someone with a Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting get a job investigating financial fraud? I know the FBI, SEC, FTC, etc, but what about private industries? Security firms? Banks? Insurance Companies? Where is a good place to find an entry level position?
I’ve always wanted to be an RCMP Officer, a Plainclothes Detective or Agent of some sort. To any Americans who would want to answer this question, I do believe that the RCMP is the Canadian equivalent of the FBI, so the qualifications would be similar of not identical.
I live in Toronto right now, and I’m a Black male. I know that to be an RCMP Officer you don’t even need to go to University at all, but I would go to University anyway, to increase my opportunities.
What courses should I take which would best serve me on my path to the RCMP?
Should I take Criminology or Forensics or Finance or Accounting or any other course?
And would a few years in the Military assist me in becoming an RCMP officer?
thank you
Heres the deal. I want to go to college after highschool. Then i want to join the Marines. After the Marines i want to be either a cop or try my luck getting into FBI or CIA. I have a good background. Good grades. no drugs. no trouble. What college degree would you recomend. Ive heard everything from accounting (which im good at) to forensics to criminal law, and heard i could make good money if i learned arabic or farsi. Advise please. Thank you
I’m a college senior graduating in May 2009 with a bachelors degree in Accounting. I am interested in a career in law enforcement, whether it be locally, state, or federal. FBI sounds very interesting as well, my professor for my Forensic Accounting class was an agent. I was wondering when I should start applying for jobs, and where it is easiest to get hired so I can get my feet wet in the field and start my career? I wouldn’t mind moving to another state, as long as there was a job for me. Could anyone help?
Money is not an issue
I’m a first-year undergraduate student, currently majoring in biology. My plan was to become a forensic scientist and eventually work for the FBI, which I consider to be my ultimate goal (my dream, if you will). However, I’ve made several friends whose majors include accounting and MIS (management information systems), and there’s no way I can deny how appealing those careers sound. I’ve done my research, and it seems that the FBI places huge emphasis on accounting and IT when they recruit. So now I’m torn. To put it as simply as possible, should I stick with the forensic science, even though my love for biology is slowly but surely fading away, or should I pursue a career on the business side, with either accounting or MIS?
What’s holding me back from making a decision is fear of choosing the wrong area. I’m afraid that my love for biology won’t ever come back even if I stick with it, and on the other hand I’m afraid that I won’t even love accounting or MIS as much as I once loved biology.
Thank you in advance for your advice. I appreciate it!
I purposely left out that I plan to get a Masters, get a PhD, and work for years before hypothetically joining the FBI. It was my fault for hoping that people wouldn’t assume I’m like every other googly-eyed wannabe CSI or FBI special agent. Once again, I’ve done my research. I see no distinction between the work of a biology tech and forensic scientist other than the material they are given to work with. I see no glamor in it whatsoever. I don’t even plan to become a special agent. I just want to work for the FBI, actually, for any federal intelligence/law enforcement agency. I feel strongly called to serve and protect my country.
I know that i will need a bachelors degree and at least three 3yrs of work experience. I am going to become a police officer then and get a bachelors in criminal justice. I figure to make myself more appealing for the FBI I should get another bachelors degree. What would be an appealing degree for the FBI?. I know the FBI needs people tha can speak foreing languages and accountants. The problem is I dont like foreign languages, and I took 2 semesters of accounting and completely hated it ( was an an accounting major but changes that fast). I got a suggestion from my teacher for forensic accounting but im not sure if I would like it. Could someone give me a suggestion?
Now, before you go linking me to the FBI website, I’m going to tell you that I have done my research. I know what critical skills they look for and what specialties, such as Law, Accounting, etc. I also know that working at the FBI is not what they make it look like on TV. I would like to study Criminal Justice, but I know that a BA in that would not be good enough to get me where I want to be. I am thinking of majoring in Psychology or Sociology (I would love to learn about Forensic Psychology and Criminology) . I want to eventually also apply for the Internship that the FBI offers. I am not interested in accounting, business, computer technology, or going to Law School. I am considering taking a foreign language like German, Russian or possibly Mandarin Chinese.
So, what schools should I consider, and is my goal of becoming and FBI Special Agent achievable if I work hard enough? If not, what should I do to achieve it? (I am currently a High School AP student.)
This is my second time being fired from a job since the fall of 2007. I just don’t seem to have any luck when it comes to working for people at dead end jobs. I am currently in college majoring in Accounting and hope to become a forensic accountant for the FBI. I have a long way to go before finishing school so right now I need a job to pay my bills. I am one of those people that can do anything that I put my mind to. So I’m looking to start my own business or do a business that I can do from home. I’m not looking for any home parties/catalog parties. I have done this thing before and the money is not that great with this current economy. Please do not list a bunch of work at home scams or the infamous pyramid scams because I know them when I see them and I will flag you as spam. Please list only serious ideas if you have them and ones that might be recession proof.

Im a junior in high school, I have visited the FBI website and looked at the requirements. I have currently taken all required classes for my junior year and also other classes like forensics, accounting, computer applications, etc.. Im not sure what I want to do in college, possibly a criminal justice major. Also I plan to do the ROTC Program and commision as an infantry officer, I know that military experiance is needed in the FBI at the time. With this current plan could I qualify as a FBI Agent? What classes should I focus on next year? Thanks
