I’m pretty sure my boss is a very slick scam artist. I’m no forensic accountant by any means, but it’s pretty apparant that something is going on and I am simply a pawn who is helping someone get rich. I mean, why would someone pay ,000 a month for long distance when they could get it for free? Anyway, my boss is telling me that he wants me to become a signer on one of the accounts because the company we need to pay isn’t supposed to know that my boss owns the company. I’m concerned about the liability that may come in to play if this occurs. What if something happens and we are sued or audited, would I be liable for the transactions of the company? I’m just a bookkeeper. I’m not an accountant. I’m just trying to do my job. I’m an honest person. Should I agree to be a signer on the account when I only partially knowing the reason it is being done?

Hello,

me and my husband have been together 5 years, we got married recently back in november 2009. our relationship hasnt been the best, it has been quite volitile and scarey but I still love him and vise versa..

we broke up back in march, 4 months after marriage he left me.

he kicked me out homeless, with no money, sold my car and took the money and left me with nothing… i walked to my mothers 10 miles away with my tail betweeen my legs hoping she’d take me in.

my husband has been violent in the past, in many cases out home is known to police for our volitile relationship.

back in march it was my birthday and he said he was divorcing me, left me homeless and with no money, no job and no car and no money. i was devasted and very hurt as you can imagine

i was so angry so i got on the phone and told his clients in business that he had been frauding receipts, faking corgi and defrauding them out of money…… I told them the truth because I wante him to hurt like he hurt me…..

I never thought we would be getting back together but 4 motnhs later we got back together in late november and decided not to divorce, so ive partially moved back in.

the problem is is that his clients put all his accounts on hold and refuse to pay him until a forensic accounts looks through his accounts… which ofcourse he refuses.

This is now goint to court and Im terrified they will show my emails and coorospondances in court… if he sees it I dont know what will happen and Im sooo frightened – should I tell him that it was me who told on him or should I keep quiet?

I have asked friends and family and they have told me to keep quiet but I dont know what I should do… its killing me. Things have started getting really good and I want things to work but If he finds out its me I dont know if theyll be a future for us anymore.

Becasue of his voilent nature I duno if its best to get out or just tell him the truth – when I told his clirnts what had happend I was alone and experiencing depression thinking he left me alone, homeless, moneyless and care less and I just wanted him to be as hurt as I was…..

I didnt think itd come back… what should I do – should I tell him or should I be quiet and hope it doesnt get brought up?

Please help, Im 25 he is 44…. I really need help. I want things to work but Im soooo frightnd

Where would someone with a Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting get a job investigating financial fraud? I know the FBI, SEC, FTC, etc, but what about private industries? Security firms? Banks? Insurance Companies? Where is a good place to find an entry level position?

I was recently laid off (mass layoff for budget reasons, nothing personal) from my job, so like anyone in this situation, I immediately filed for unemployment. I’m not sure what the typical protocol is in most states, but I live in NJ, and it takes 5 weeks to actually complete the filing process. I had my telephone interview on Wednesday. The man on the phone didn’t ask one question actually regarding my job, it was all about my current schooling. I’m a full-time student, but it’s all online. He wanted to know how many credits I’m taking, what classes, what my major is, when I’ll graduate, how I’m paying for school.. He was very nice, and I certainly didn’t want to "bite the hand that feeds me" in a sense, so I kindly asked what any of this had to do with UI. He had no answer, just mumbled something to the effect of "just questions we have to ask".

So I get a letter in the mail, stating that I am disqualified from UI benefits because I’m a full-time student. I would really like to know what schooling- whether it’s full-time, part-time, online, on campus, whatever- has to do with the fact that I worked for a company for 3 1/2 years and was laid off. The wording and "reasoning" in the letter don’t even really make sense to me. This was one of the other reasons listed:

"You are a full-time student for Criminal Justice/Forensics. Your training could not be approved. Your training is not for a labor demand occupation."

"There is no proof that you had sufficient earnings outside vacation and holiday breaks from school to establish a claim for benefits. You are a full-time student. You are disqualified for benefits."

Um.. what? I don’t even understand what the second "reason" is alluding to. It’s so poorly worded that I’m not even sure what it means, but whether I’m majoring in Accounting or Gameboy, it still does not take away from the fact that, as I stated earlier, I was laid off from a job that I held for nearly 4 years. If anything, I thought it would strengthen my need for UI benefits, since I have additional expenses (e.g. tuition, books). Also, it’s not like I’m some 19 year old living on campus and using my job’s salary as Natty Ice money. I’m a 25 year old adult that has responsibilities and bills to pay.

I definitely plan on appealing this, but I guess the reason that I’m posting this is because I wanted to know if there was anyone else out there with a similar experience. Do I actually have a chance of winning the appeal? It appears as though it’s a written-in-stone rule with NJ UI that full-time students can’t be compensated. I find this "rule" extremely frustrating, especially since I have a friend who, in the past 6 years, has been FIRED twice for stealing. Each time, it was made clear to UI that she was fired for stealing. She was able to collect UI each time, and actually got numerous extensions for each claim. The last time she was fired for stealing, she was able to collect UI for 99 weeks, and had to do very little on her part to get these extensions. But, I digress, so before my blood pressure skyrockets even more, here is something else I am wondering about: I will actually be obtaining my BS in a few weeks when this current semester is over. After that, I will no longer be a full-time student. Do you think there is a chance that I can start collecting UI once my student status ceases?

Thank you in advance to anyone who offers their two cents. Any sort of tips or guidance are welcomed!
"So your question is… where is my handout?"

No, my question is, where is a fraction of the pie that I have paid into since I was 14? Why am I penalized for wanting to better myself through higher education, while irresponsibility such as having multiple children that one can’t afford is rewarded? I have never once collected any sort of government aid.

"Unemployment Benefits are emergency funds to support the basics for a household. The job you had lost has nothing to do with it."

You seem to believe that you know a lot about my situation from what limited information I shared. I have rent, food, and utility expenses. If those aren’t basic, I’m not quite sure what is. Please enlighten me as to how my former job has nothing to do with Unemployment Benefits. I’d love to hear it.

I am really torn. I love tax classes, which allow hands-on learning, and I am bored with audit classes as these tend to be more lecture-based. The Big 4 seem to prefer that students have the tax knowledge, which is lucky for me, but for the real world, what career route should I take? The companies are asking those difficult questions now. Do I have more flexibility to learn and advance with audit, or is tax the better career route? Again, I am not looking for educational advice as I am pretty settled with tax classes. I am really trying to decide what professional track will allow me the most flexibility for advancement. Eventually, I think I want to become a forensic accountant, if that helps. Thank you.
In terms of an educational track, the Big 4 prefers that students take the tax track. Auditing can be taught more on the job than tax. However, I want to know what route is better in terms of a career – tax or audit. Long-term, a few years down the road, I want to work as a forensic accountant, but for now I want the flexibility to move to different divisions, (i.e., business risk, forensic accounting, etc.), work internationally, and so on. When I interview with accounting firms, what route do I tell them I want to take to satisfy these requirements? Again, I already know that I am taking the tax route in terms of education. I am merely confused about whether I should choose tax or audit to help me gain the education (on-the-job training) that will allow me to be the best accountant for the firm I work for, have the flexibility to move from division to division over a number of years, etc.

I want to start a new life, and i’ve had my eye on Minneapolis/St. Paul area,.
So how is the *nightlife like, the *transportation (i would be ok without a car right?), what about colleges, I heard there are many, but does anyone know a good one for Forensic Accounting or a Financial Fraud Analyst, I’ll be done with my 2 years by the time i move. and last thing, *How hard is it to get a job ?(something to pay the rent and expenses). -I’m gonna have money saved up but i’ll ran out sometime,

I don’t know anyone there and I’ll be moving alone so
Thanks Guys, anything will help.

I have a 3 month old baby and am currently in a relationship with his father. His father and I do not get along that well… I don’t get a long with his father that well. The fact is, we dated for 2 months and I got pregnant so we have stuck together. I no longer wish to be in a relationship with him but am afraid to leave because I do not want to be a part time mom. His dad is not a bad person, just no ambition. I have a BA in forensic accounting and just received my CPA and have a job were I alone make ,000. I work hard. His dad (boyfriend) has a going nowhere job, only does what he has to do at work, makes an hour and I can not get him to help me with anything around the house. He has no ambition. He is not a bad guy, I just can’t stand to have a partner that has no goals. I know that he would want to be a part of our baby’s life, but I want to be the primary parent. If we seperate, by law do we have to do joint custody or would I become the primary parent?
For those who misunderstood. I was implying that he was not a bad guy. He just has no ambition. I do not think he is unfit as a parent because he makes an hour, I think he is an unfit partner because I work my butt off and he has a job only making that amount and he does not care to try and get more out of life.

I’m a college senior graduating in May 2009 with a bachelors degree in Accounting. I am interested in a career in law enforcement, whether it be locally, state, or federal. FBI sounds very interesting as well, my professor for my Forensic Accounting class was an agent. I was wondering when I should start applying for jobs, and where it is easiest to get hired so I can get my feet wet in the field and start my career? I wouldn’t mind moving to another state, as long as there was a job for me. Could anyone help?
Money is not an issue

What do you think about this field of study?

If you are an accountant can you tell be the best way to break into the field? Intern? CPA? And also do you enjoy the work that you do? Best part? Worst part?

Also what is a good area of accounting to go into? Corporate? Government? Forensic? Entrepreneurship or what?
also is it true that most people who major in accounting just end up doing taxes somewhere?
Also I’ve heard that Accounting is a GPA sensitive major. Can an accounting graduate get a job with a low GPA?
