I went over a list online of majors offered in most colleges. I click on one and it would give me a list of "specializations" and courses to take for the major and potential jobs. i.e. Click on "Business" major, it gives me a list of specializations such as Accounting, Marketing, Finance, etc. How do specializations work? I thought we just picked a Major, and signed up for classes. With specializations, do we have to pick one and then get certain classes for it?

Anyways, I’m interested in Forensic Science and Psychology. Not sure how to work out the major/minor or double major thing yet but do I choose Criminal Justice or Science and Math as my major if I want to become a forensic psychologist / psychologist profiler? On the website, it had forensic science as a specialization in both of the majors. Or is forensic science a major all on its own? I’m a little ignorant when it comes to how this stuff works unfortunately.

This is getting really long already, sorry. Thanks in advance to whoever can answer even one question. It’s much appreciated :)

I am a student of Assocaites and was planning to do my majors in accounting to become a tax accountant but last night my management class teacher told me about Forensic Accounting which I did not knew about and now I am all confused again
Which one is better Tax or Forensic?
Which one will be harder or take more time to complete?
Which one is more rewarding and enjoy more job security and demand?

Thanks in Advance

I’m a first-year undergraduate student, currently majoring in biology. My plan was to become a forensic scientist and eventually work for the FBI, which I consider to be my ultimate goal (my dream, if you will). However, I’ve made several friends whose majors include accounting and MIS (management information systems), and there’s no way I can deny how appealing those careers sound. I’ve done my research, and it seems that the FBI places huge emphasis on accounting and IT when they recruit. So now I’m torn. To put it as simply as possible, should I stick with the forensic science, even though my love for biology is slowly but surely fading away, or should I pursue a career on the business side, with either accounting or MIS?

What’s holding me back from making a decision is fear of choosing the wrong area. I’m afraid that my love for biology won’t ever come back even if I stick with it, and on the other hand I’m afraid that I won’t even love accounting or MIS as much as I once loved biology.

Thank you in advance for your advice. I appreciate it!
I purposely left out that I plan to get a Masters, get a PhD, and work for years before hypothetically joining the FBI. It was my fault for hoping that people wouldn’t assume I’m like every other googly-eyed wannabe CSI or FBI special agent. Once again, I’ve done my research. I see no distinction between the work of a biology tech and forensic scientist other than the material they are given to work with. I see no glamor in it whatsoever. I don’t even plan to become a special agent. I just want to work for the FBI, actually, for any federal intelligence/law enforcement agency. I feel strongly called to serve and protect my country.

So originally since middle school I wanted to be in forensics. Then decided, criminal profiling interested me more some time during high school. After researching colleges my junior year I found forensic psychology wasn’t offered many places and forensics was too hard. Then I decided maybe I should do accounting cause I like math. Then decided I like kids so maybe I should teach elementary education. Then I decided I like animals much more so I looked into veterinary technician. My mother pointed out my typing/texting skills and speed are much more excelled than the normal person so she suggested court reporting. All of which at this time are good options. Except I once was set for years on one thing and now I have a million options. I have weighed the pros and cons of several schools. Made charts with what majors they have of my interest, the distance, the expenses, the potential salary I’d get afterward. Now I’m only more confused than ever. I’m currently attending a community college but I need to decide within the next year which option to go with. I’m afraid to make a decision I will regret and have wasted my money and time earning whichever degree. So I thought maybe I’d just go get a bachelors in Liberal Arts but quickly learned by searching similar questions on here, that would be a waste of time and money too. I don’t want to just decide "O.K, I’ll do early education and go here for the last 2 years" and then decide I don’t want to do that at all. With this economy it’s crucial I get the best education so I have more opportunities to get a job. Unfortunately the more I’ve thought this through the further I’ve come to making a decision. I’m having difficulty finding a close affordable school with majors I’m interested in. Can’t seem to find the balance between a decent paying career that I’m also passionate about. I’ve found careers I’d be good at and will pay a good deal but don’t necessarily care for and things I’d enjoy doing but won’t provide much money to live off of. I also hope to find something that isn’t demanding (sounds lazy) because I don’t intend on being a career woman, so to speak. I want a family and want to be the kind of person who devotes my time to them yet I also want a decent job. Ay yi yi. Any guidance/suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

Ps. Sorry this is so elaborate.

I will graduate from college next month with a degree in comp. science. For some reason, a few months ago, I seem to have lost interest in my major even though I still like computers. I’ve had other majors in the past, like accounting & computer engineering & had considered library science. I took a career assessment test recently, & it said I’m better off having a career in industrial arts, science, and clerical work. I’ve looked up industrial arts online but can’t really find anything. Any advice on what type of career I should have? I feel bad because I’m this far along in school & still not completely sure. Some of my interests include computers; forensics (BIG CourtTV fan); French; math; working with my hands & machines; writing. I prefer not to do social work/ work with the public.
