I’m currently going for my associates in both bus. admin. and accounting. it’s only 1 full time semester difference between the 2, and i’ve decided i want both. i also want to get my bachelors degree after i get my 2 associates degrees, i will probably major in accounting since i have a natural knack for math and finances, i’d really love to do forensic accounting. anyways, what i’m looking to find out is, how hard is it to go from an associates to a bachelors degree? i know the assoc is 2 years and the bachelors is 4, but will an associates transfer over to the bachelors? would i also have to get my transfer degree to be able to complete my bachelors? has anybody on here gotten their assoc. then gone for their bachelors? if yes, how did you do it? advice is much appreciated1 thanks!
I went over a list online of majors offered in most colleges. I click on one and it would give me a list of "specializations" and courses to take for the major and potential jobs. i.e. Click on "Business" major, it gives me a list of specializations such as Accounting, Marketing, Finance, etc. How do specializations work? I thought we just picked a Major, and signed up for classes. With specializations, do we have to pick one and then get certain classes for it?
Anyways, I’m interested in Forensic Science and Psychology. Not sure how to work out the major/minor or double major thing yet but do I choose Criminal Justice or Science and Math as my major if I want to become a forensic psychologist / psychologist profiler? On the website, it had forensic science as a specialization in both of the majors. Or is forensic science a major all on its own? I’m a little ignorant when it comes to how this stuff works unfortunately.
This is getting really long already, sorry. Thanks in advance to whoever can answer even one question. It’s much appreciated ![]()
I am applying to university and i need help on choosing which pathway to go with if i want to get money and finish university fast,(retire early).
I have interest in Finance and i also like to ask Why a lot. i am very analytical and detail oriented. I also like math and enjoy problem solving.
My choices are :
To obtain a CA then CFA?
To obtain a Actuary major? then get CFA or a CA
or just to get one of these (CA, CFA or Actuary)
This raises a question. With the CA designation, i heard that it is the best and most known standard or qualification in business because they understand businesses the most. If this is true, is it necessary to get the CFA, if i can already do what a CFA does with a CA?
Also i plan on moving to Dubai and would like to live there. Will these pathways or choices be recognized and be more rewarding over there? I live in Toronto btw.
I was also considering Forensic accounting.
Anything else you may feel i should know that is a Con to these choices i have listed, please share
Thank you ![]()
I have the first job that I am already a part of for about a month. It is an Accounts Receivable Specialist position. I don’t like it because it involved not too much thinking, just processing. I make collection calls, follow up with people to find out when the payment is going to be made, etc. I know that the times are bad. however, i feel that i should not sell myself short just because the Economy is suffering. I have another job that i am considering. it is part time (only 2 full days a week). Money is not an issue really for me at this point. I need the experience more than i need the money. The new job is that of an accounting assistant/ receptionist position, where i have to do a combination of both duties. it’s in forensic accounting, which is closer to what i want to do in the long run. Also, this job is not permanent. it is indefinite (whatever that means). It is from an Accounting Agency. I can’t stand the first job because of the general environment, although i should not be complaining at all about that in this bad economy. I just graduated from university of California with a BA in Econ and math and poli sci minors. i have a few months (6 months ) of experience in finance and 9 months experience in the legal field. My dad says stick with stability. the new position pays only 1 dollar more per hour than the old one (14 dollars/hr.). I just feel that even working a part time job that gives you more direct experience is better than working a full time job that you hate and gives you no relevant experience. Please advise!! i would appreciate any tips/ suggestions.
Also…i feel bad quitting at my first job since my supervisor spent some days training me and he did not get that much of a return from me. i don’t want him to get in trouble because of me…

I’m so lost in life right now. I’ve wasted almost 2 years out of high school amounting to pretty much nothing. I tried to go to school for a major in Biology to get into Optometry. It turned out a bust from the start since I was heavily influenced by my family to do something medical, so I had no motivation to do good in my classes. I ended up dropping out.
Now I’m back to square one with trying my hardest not to take in anyone’s opinion but my own. I really truly want a future, but am so scared to even set foot out for the fear of failure. I feel like I have to be the very best or do nothing, and I know it doesn’t have to be that way.I’ve done some major reflecting on myself thinking back to high school when I had ideas on what I wanted to be.
Languages has always been a huge interest for me, dating back to middle school when I was trying to learn Japanese. Over the years I’ve picked up a little in many languages, but now am trying to be serious to stick with Portuguese. I fluently speak English and Spanish (thanks to my mexican/spanish background). That’s where I picked up the idea that I should do something that has to do with languages. I don’t know much about how you go about seeking employment in it though, which is of course a problem.
The idea that I got for accounting is, that once I push through the laziness, I can be quite good at math. I mean a lot of math is just it giving you an equation, and you plug in numbers into it and you balance it to make it a true statement (if possible). I also know that accounting isn’t just all about crunching numbers. I have more of in interest in forensic accounting, but of course before I can do that I have to try out regular accounting.
So I stand at what I believe are my own choices from my heart, yet I still feel compelled to get someone’s opinion on which one I believe I should choose. Heads or tails? Pray for a sign? Just flat out ask people? I’m just scared it will end up like the whole Optometry failure again.
I need questions that really make me think of what career could really suit me best.
Thanks in advance for those who read all of this!
So originally since middle school I wanted to be in forensics. Then decided, criminal profiling interested me more some time during high school. After researching colleges my junior year I found forensic psychology wasn’t offered many places and forensics was too hard. Then I decided maybe I should do accounting cause I like math. Then decided I like kids so maybe I should teach elementary education. Then I decided I like animals much more so I looked into veterinary technician. My mother pointed out my typing/texting skills and speed are much more excelled than the normal person so she suggested court reporting. All of which at this time are good options. Except I once was set for years on one thing and now I have a million options. I have weighed the pros and cons of several schools. Made charts with what majors they have of my interest, the distance, the expenses, the potential salary I’d get afterward. Now I’m only more confused than ever. I’m currently attending a community college but I need to decide within the next year which option to go with. I’m afraid to make a decision I will regret and have wasted my money and time earning whichever degree. So I thought maybe I’d just go get a bachelors in Liberal Arts but quickly learned by searching similar questions on here, that would be a waste of time and money too. I don’t want to just decide "O.K, I’ll do early education and go here for the last 2 years" and then decide I don’t want to do that at all. With this economy it’s crucial I get the best education so I have more opportunities to get a job. Unfortunately the more I’ve thought this through the further I’ve come to making a decision. I’m having difficulty finding a close affordable school with majors I’m interested in. Can’t seem to find the balance between a decent paying career that I’m also passionate about. I’ve found careers I’d be good at and will pay a good deal but don’t necessarily care for and things I’d enjoy doing but won’t provide much money to live off of. I also hope to find something that isn’t demanding (sounds lazy) because I don’t intend on being a career woman, so to speak. I want a family and want to be the kind of person who devotes my time to them yet I also want a decent job. Ay yi yi. Any guidance/suggestions/advice would be appreciated.
Ps. Sorry this is so elaborate.
I will graduate from college next month with a degree in comp. science. For some reason, a few months ago, I seem to have lost interest in my major even though I still like computers. I’ve had other majors in the past, like accounting & computer engineering & had considered library science. I took a career assessment test recently, & it said I’m better off having a career in industrial arts, science, and clerical work. I’ve looked up industrial arts online but can’t really find anything. Any advice on what type of career I should have? I feel bad because I’m this far along in school & still not completely sure. Some of my interests include computers; forensics (BIG CourtTV fan); French; math; working with my hands & machines; writing. I prefer not to do social work/ work with the public.
